Dear Suzanne,
I loved reading this story, and I am adding the Gayford book to my ever-lengthening list of books-I'd-really-like-to-read-now-that-I-can. What I liked best, though, was your warning to the reader about the dangers of reading backstories. That's a wonderful point, and it applies to many things other than painting!

Suzanne,
it's beautiful. If I dare contradict Matisse, this is my favorite way to observe and absorb art. I would much rather be in the artist's head than project my own on her work.
